Back in 1988 we lived in Mesquite, Texas. Mr Fabulous Fifty was a student at a seminary in the area and to put it mildly, we did without many things including the notion of vacations and entertainment “out”. One night, the doorbell rang. On the front porch stood my best friend, her husband and her kids (I think if my memory serves me) along with a sheet cake. They sang to me from the front yard, reminding me of Christmas carols.
But it wasn’t Christmas. It was my birthday. I was 32. And it was August 8, 1988. Their visit was purposeful at 8:08. Vacations weren’t in our budget but that night, it didn’t matter. We celebrated my birthday, wedged on the couch and sprawled on the floor. Two families, plates of cake and Ollie Hopnoodle’s Haven of Bliss.
I sure wish they would release it on DVD. I’d love to watch it again.
If you saw the movie, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, you are familiar with Turkish Delights. They were the yummy treats that Edmond was bribed with…by the Ice Queen. I always figured they must be awesome to be used to bribe the saneness of well-rounded young man. If they could be used to sway a young boy’s taste buds, I knew they must be magical.
Today in the mail, came a package of Turkish Delights. They arrived from across the great pond, from a far away land by the hands of a Turkish family whom I adore. As a bonus, I received a family photo. I love those faces!
If you have a chance to try them, take a taste of Turkish Delights and learn what Edmond and I know: They are delicious!
We are almost finished with the bathroom remodel. Today they finished up the bathtub but it shifted while I was standing in it, putting the blinds in the window. I’m not a bathtub installer but I do know that bathtubs are not supposed to shift!
The cabinet door pulls are being put on. The towel racks and rings hung. The mirrors are over the sinks.
I spent the afternoon with the vacuum, the windex and the electric screwdriver and drill, putting up blinds so I could take a bath (which is now delayed because of shifting).
I think we will get to move our bedroom furniture back into our bedroom on Saturday morning. Our closets and sink stuff too.
I am a mom of two wonderful young adults, wife of 30 years, owner of two dachshunds (one purebred, one wannabe), owner of two websites for women, artist, and most importantly: daughter of the King of Kings.
