We don’t go to the movie theaters often. The previews alone are enough to usually turn my stomach into knots. This weekend we went to two:
Prince Caspian (Narnia) was wonderful. Slight deviations from the original book, the gorgeous cinematography made up for that. It was an intense movie with lots of battles, slicing and dicing but gladly, no bloodshed on screen. And of course, good wins over evil. Aslan triumphs in the land and in the hearts of His people. (Previews were a small group of family movies upcoming that looked intriguing. I’m not sure I’ll head to the theater to see any of them, but they did look like great DVDs for the house.)
Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was next on our list. It started out with a chase, rattled through the 50’s with a nod to the culture I remember: red bicycles, Howdy Doody, simpler times. The movie was a great ride, silly and exaggerated like the other Indy movies a rip roaring good time. Lots of great lines. Watch for this one for a great giggle: “Don’t call it a snake! Call it a rope!” (Previews were terrible. I won’t be going to see any of them in the theater nor house DVD.)
I enjoyed both movies. It was a bonus weekend!

My house isn’t really that old. It is, though, at that age where things are wearing out and breaking down.
Last week while I was out of town, the door lever to our bedroom decided to stop working. Mr. Fabulous Fifty had to crawl in the window with a screwdriver to get the door knob off, the door opened so he and the dogs could go to bed. Its the third door lever that has decided on a whim to stop working recently. One was to the hot water heater door. One was to the laundry room. Now this one to our bedroom. Inspecting the other door levers, they are old, sticky, and showing their age.
I started pricing door levers to replace the old. First, I discovered right away that our 32 year old house’s door hardware is no longer available. Go figure. And since I can’t find anything even close to the design, I can’t seem to find a way to put new hardware on some doors but not others.
So, now I’m counting doors around the house. Some require a lock (bathrooms) while some are pass-through.
A small fortune in door levers is required. On a good note, I think once I buy the door levers, I can install them myself. With practice.
On a good note, how good it is that we have a home, broken door knobs and all. God is indeed good, all the time.
